Blue Light Therapy--a Form of Living Energy

from:

Light therapy is one of the most famous forms of treatments nowadays for various disorders and health problems. It makes use of energy from light sources such as fluorescent lamps, dichroic diodes and lasers through a light box, and the patient is exposed into it. The use of this treatment has been proven to lessen, if not thoroughly cure, the cause of the health problems. Examples of light therapy being used nowadays with various effects are clear light therapy, red light therapy, laser light therapy which uses lasers, bright light therapy and blue light therapy.

This method of therapy which makes use of lights and colors, such as the Blue Light Therapy has been around for a very long period of time. This has first begun with the ancient Greeks and Egyptians. The ancient Chinese and Indians have also used this method in their healing practices and even up to this day, they are considered to be a major part of their alternative healing practices.

As each human resonates with his own individual frequencies, such is also there are different colors of light used in color therapy. This method is based upon how an individual’s organs are in relation to their chakras and meridians. The body’s exposure to blue light, such as the Blue Light Therapy, brings about a more balanced state and increases an individual’s confidence in speaking, mental relaxation and clarity in regards to communication levels. This is so because the color blue is often associated with communication, personal expression and ability to make the right decisions.

The use of light therapy products in doses of 30 minutes to two hours each morning in front of a high-intensity fluorescent lamp, resets the “biological clock” of the human body, as demonstrated by studies on Blue Light Therapy. And one of the highly successful treatments involves the Seasonal Affective Disorder or SAD which is a condition of depression during shorter days in fall and winter because of the reduced sunlight exposures of the body. This shortened exposure affects the body’s internal clock.

A Blue Light Therapy study in 2006 proved to be 60% successful in the treatment of SAD. It showed that exposure to a narrow band of wavelengths that were positioned in a range of 466 to 477nm showed the most successful ways in terms of response from the body’s biological clock. The color range that was used is similar to that of the blue of a clear, blue sky. Another study has also reported that exposure to blue-LED light to patients with Alzheimer’s helped their body clocks to get an adequate rest and sleep than before they were even exposed to the treatment. But combing it with red light, the Alzheimer study provided no results. The use also of a yellow light in combination with the blue, cancelled out entirely the therapy.

The results of exposure to any form of light therapy takes about two to four days but in extensive disorders such as SAD or other forms of depression, it takes up to three weeks before results are evident. If any of side effects occur, such as the listed next, then it is advised that the time spent under the light be decreased:

• Eyestrain
• Visual disturbances
• Headaches
• Agitation
• Feelings of "weirdness"
• Sweating
• Nausea

In addition, individuals who have some conditions such as skin and eye sensitivity, then they are advised to consult their therapist or doctor with the right therapy to be used before undergoing any treatment. The use of other alternative medicine in conjunction with light therapy should also be notified to the doctor in charge.
