Reducing Pain and Increasing Circulation with Infrared Light Therapy
from:The use of infrared light as treatment has been around in the medical profession for about 20 years. The infrared light therapy or can be called as the LED therapy as this utilizes both the red and near-infrared light from infrared light bulbs, has been used to lessen pain and increase the body’s circulation. In fact it is used as a heat modality for many areas of physical therapy and is now considered as a medical necessity.
From an ancient practice, there has been an increased acceptance of this form of therapy and has brought a lot of changes in the use of light emitting diodes (LED) and called as the Monochromatic Infrared Energy. Another form of this infrared light therapy which has evolved in the recent years is the pulsed infrared light therapy, which is a kind of infrared therapy technology that utilizes a dual wave infrared therapy. This kind of therapy has been shown to increase peripheral sensation in diabetic patients with diabetic peripheral neuropathy.
The traditional medical field’s advantage and the wide acceptance of infrared light therapy developed some researches out of it with regards to its positive aspects and life-saving qualities. And now, a recent system of infrared light therapy uses a combination of infrared light energy – both non-visible and visible forms – called the Healthlight System. This Healthlight System is a kind of pulsed infrared light therapy in terms of the pads and frequencies used in treating patients. Another known kind of this is the Anodyne Infrared light, which has its roots from Tampa, Florida have received various reviews with regards to its positive outcomes.
The Visible Infrared Light is a system recognized for its ability to reach about eight to 10 mm into the human skin surface. It is considered beneficial for many types of surface wounds, cuts, scars, triggers, treating infections and also acupuncture points. The Invisible Infrared Light on the other hand, can reach a depth of about 30 to 40 mm from the human skin surface. And this area involves bones, deep muscles and joints. And with this, although red and infrared wavelengths have the ability to reach different depths, its therapeutic effects are the same.
The Infrared Light Therapy has a long history. Even in the ancient times, it was used as a form of light therapy when the sunlight shining on bare skin was filtered through a red stained glass. And from then on, documentation on this kind of therapy had been well-known than any of the light therapies that have been discovered. The use of red color in light therapy is considered to stimulate the system as it is its base chakra color, the “fight or flight” area.
The Healthlight System which was mentioned above is a kind of infrared light therapy device that consists of the infrared light therapy and the visible diodes, which creates a warm feeling on its pads. This result in an increased circulation and decreased swellings, decreased inflammations, decreased tension and decreased muscle spasms. The adverse side-effects of this system is almost zero because of the system’s featured built-in timers and auto shut-off. However, minor situations may occur such as burning of an area that is left too long under the system. Diabetic patients who undergo this kind of therapy should also have their insulin levels monitored during the treatments.
No prescriptions are required for the Healthlight infrared light therapy system for personal purchase or even for use in a treatment facility. But clinics that offer the infrared light therapy, requires prescription if the purchase needs to be reimbursed through the client’s health plan for private insurance. Medicare, however, does not cover or approve the code for the Infrared Heating Pad for home treatments, but most other insurance companies do follow the policy.
