Light Box Therapy--A Favorite Light Therapy Product
from:The Light Box Therapy is fast becoming one of the top favorites in the list of light therapy products, especially in the category of light box therapy for depression. Antidepressant medication and psychotherapy have taken the lead as being the acceptable depression treatments in the past 25 years, until in the last ten years, when light therapy began to receive reputation and respect as a treatment for depression.
The American Psychiatric Association in Washington, D.C. came to the conclusion in 2005 that in trial experiments, daily exposure to bright light, which utilizes natural sunlight or Light Box Therapy is considered to be just effective as any of the anti-depressant drugs in the treatment of seasonal affective disorder (SAD) or “winter depression”, along with other forms of depression.
In the past years, the claims of treatments such as the Light Box Therapy in “diminishing the signs of depression” had been scoffed by many mainstream psychiatrists. In the trials done, these treatments ranged in early morning exposures from 30 minutes to one hour. When the tests were done, those who had exposure to the Light Box Therapy demonstrated pronounced and remarkable easing of the SAD symptoms upon waking in the morning.
Latest research however does not show yet results for severe depression. There are also no results with regards to the issue that certain colors can cause any eye problems, even though there is major agreement that it will not. And new treatments such as the phototherapy light box bipolar combined with one night of sleep deprivation, then followed by a week’s normal sleeping patterns, are increasing recovery for those who are presently receiving antidepressants for bipolar or other major depressions. But in order to maximize the long-term benefits of the Light Box Therapy or exposure to sunlight should be combined with a regular sleeping schedule to balance the body’s biological clock.
Certain areas just like Alaska, Maine, Vermont and some other northern U.S. states experiences shorter days with less sunlight beginning October 30, 2007. And this led to the number of approximately 14.5 million Americans who are diagnosed with SAD. People who were diagnosed with it experienced feelings of suicide, lack of interest in anything around them, extreme fatigue and feelings of worthlessness. Many of them, the Light Box Therapy with either white light from light therapy bulbs or full spectrum light from light therapy lamps to simulate sunlight, will offer them a better feeling. But this depends upon whether they stick to it or not.
Some of the more recent treatments of SAD include the Light Box Therapy combined with cognital-behavioral therapy or CBT. The results show the high 80% range bracket. They also have been proven to show less depression after a one-year follow up than either treatment alone. One of the few other brands of light therapy is the Apollo Light Box Therapy.

Do Psychedelics Expand the Mind by Reducing Brain Activity?
What would you see if you could look inside a hallucinating brain? Despite decades of scientific investigation, we still lack a clear understanding of how hallucinogenic drugs such as LSD (lysergic acid diethylamide), mescaline, and psilocybin (the main active ingredient in magic mushrooms) work in the brain. Modern science has demonstrated that hallucinogens activate receptors for serotonin ...
